Hair Thinning & Hair Loss Treatments in Great Harwood near Blackburn

Hair loss and hair thinning are very common concerns and can affect both men and women at different stages of life. For many people it can feel worrying or frustrating, particularly when the change seems to happen gradually over time.

It is completely normal to lose around 100–150 hairs each day as part of the natural hair growth cycle. However, when hair begins to thin noticeably or shedding becomes excessive, it may indicate that the normal growth cycle has been disrupted.

Hair loss can occur for a number of reasons, including hormonal changes, stress, genetics, certain medical conditions or nutritional factors. Some of the more common types include female pattern hair loss, male pattern hair loss and alopecia areata.

Although we often think of hair as the strands we can see, the most important part of hair growth actually lies beneath the surface of the skin within the hair follicle. The follicle is the living part of the hair and plays a key role in the health and strength of each strand.

The Hair Growth Cycle

Hair naturally grows in a repeating cycle made up of three phases:

Anagen – Growth Phase
This is the active stage of hair growth, during which hair grows steadily for several years.

Catagen – Transitional Phase
A short phase lasting a few weeks where the hair stops growing and the follicle begins to shrink.

Telogen – Resting Phase
During this stage the hair naturally sheds, making way for new growth from the follicle.

This cycle normally continues throughout our lives. When the cycle becomes disrupted, hair may begin to thin or shed more noticeably.
